Our Favorite Math Tools and Toys

Teaching math to preschoolers is so fun! They learn best with hands-on experiences and through play, so we have gathered some of our favorite interactive math tools and toys to share with you today. We use these things in our classrooms frequently, and we know you will love them, too!

Our Favorite Math Tools and Toys

Here are a few of our favorite math tools and toys that we find our students using again and again in our preschool classrooms! Most of these will work to teach a variety of skills and concepts. They’re the items that we find ourselves reaching for over and over again because you can use them in such a wide variety of ways!

Learning Resources Counters

These are an absolute must-have when teaching math to preschoolers! These counters come in so many fun variations that will match any theme you’re studying. Our favorites are the family counters and the pet counters, but you can also find vehicles, bugs, fruit, jungle animals, ocean animals, and more!

Magnetic wands and chips

We love to use these magnetic wands in the classroom because they are so engaging! We use them to mark different math games, or practice counting, or make patterns and the kids love to use the magnetic wands to clean up the chips when they’re done!

Ice cube trays

These trays are so simple, but we use them in so many different ways when we are teaching math! We use them to make patterns, practice one-to-one correspondence and counting, and when you add in some tweezers they are a great fine motor tool, too.

Counting cubes

We use counting cubes to teach so many math skills: counting, more and less, patterning, one-to-one correspondence, graphing, and more!

Geoboards

Geoboards are a preschool favorite. They are such a fun, hands-on way to teach about shapes and geometry!

Jumbo dice

Dice are another must in the preschool classroom. We use them to practice counting, subitizing, addition, and subtraction. Our preschoolers love them!

Pattern blocks

We love to use these pattern blocks for STEM learning and as independent centers activities with shape mats!

Number bots

These adorable number bots stay out on our shelves almost all year because they are definitely a favorite.

Balancing scale

A scale like this one is a great addition to the math or science center to help students learn about weight, mass, and more and less. They are so naturally curious about this item that they don’t even realize they’re learning all about math while they’re exploring it!
