Holiday Science Activities
The holiday season is a perfect time to mix fun and learning with some festive science! We have two simple and exciting Christmas-themed science activities that preschoolers will love, and we’ve created the perfect printables to extend the learning even more! Find the Holiday Science Bundle in our shop, and keep reading for more details!
Christmas Magic Milk
This colorful experiment is a hit with little ones! Start by pouring whole milk into a shallow dish. Add drops of red and green food coloring around the milk’s surface. Then, dip a cotton swab in dish soap and dribble the soap into the milk. Watch the colors swirl and dance like magic! This activity is a great way to explore surface tension and cause-and-effect while adding a little Christmas cheer. When you’re done with the experiment, fill out the observation sheet together to work on sequencing!
Grinch Lava Lamp
Turn science into a bubbly adventure with this Grinch-inspired lava lamp! Fill a clear jar or cup half way with water. Mix in green food coloring (to match the Grinch!). Then add some vegetable oil. Stop here to fill out the prediction part of the worksheet together. Finally, add half an Alka-Seltzer tablet and watch it fizz and bubble like a lava lamp. Kids love watching the “Grinchy” bubbles move! When you’re done, finish filling out the observation worksheet together. This is a great way to introduce kids to the scientific method and practice making a hypothesis.
