You will need:
Rainbow Salt Painting template (find it here!)
White glue
Table salt
Watercolors or liquid food coloring
Paintbrushes or pipettes
Thick paper or cardstock
Instructions:
Download and print the Rainbow Salt Painting template. Printing it on cardstock works best!
Have your child create a rainbow design using white glue.
While the glue is still wet, sprinkle salt generously over the lines, then gently shake off the extra.
Dip a paintbrush or dropper into the watercolor paint and lightly touch the salty glue lines. The color will magically travel along the salt!
Why It’s Perfect for Preschoolers
Our Rainbow Salt Painting project isn’t just beautiful, its also a great learning experience. Kids practice fine motor skills as they squeeze glue and control their brush. Watching the paint spread teaches early science concepts like absorption and color mixing. And because every design is unique, it’s a great way to nurture creativity. The rainbow theme is perfect for your weather unit or even for St. Patrick’s Day art!
