Jack-o-Lantern Sensory Tray

We have a fun Halloween sensory activity for you on the blog today! It’s super cute, easy to prep, and can be reused over and over again (even when it’s not Halloween!) We hope you love it as much as we do. Keep reading for all the details.

You will need:

  • Round cake pan

  • Colored rice (you can dye dry rice with liquid watercolors or food coloring; we used orange and yellow to make it spooky!)

  • Optional: Letter flashcards

  • Optional: Paintbrush or pencil

Instructions:

  1. Take your dyed rice and add it to the round cake pan.

  2. Have your child use their fingers (or the paintbrush or eraser end of a pencil if you want to practice correct pincer grasp) to make some silly jack-o-lantern faces in the rice!

  3. Optional activity: Set out a letter flashcard and have your child write the letter in the rice. Gently shake the pan to reset it and try another letter!

This is a classic preschool activity for a reason! Children love this multi-sensory activity and it is a great way to practice fine motor skills, strengthen finger muscles, and learn letters all in one. Happy Halloween!

Pin it for later!
