Easy Scissor Skills Practice for Kids

Are you looking for easy ways to help your preschooler learn how to use scissors? Sometimes just cutting paper gets a little bit boring. Today, we have a fun and easy way to help your child practice their scissor skills with items you probably already have around the house.

You will need:

  • Scissors

  • Straws (paper or plastic ones work fine!)

Instructions:

  1. Make sure your child is holding the scissors correctly. You can draw a little smiley face or put a sticker on their thumb to help them remember to hold their thumb up towards the ceiling.

  2. Give them a few straws and let them practice cutting! Snipping something small like straws is easier for a child that is just learning how to use scissors, as opposed to continuous cutting of a line or shape.

  3. When you’re all done cutting, use the straw pieces and some yarn to make a fun necklace!
