Bug Scavenger Hunt

If your child loves to explore, our Bug Scavenger Hunt is the perfect way to bring a little buggy fun and adventure to your home! It’s a fun, low-prep activity that gets kids moving, thinking, and observing. This bug-themed adventure is sure to be a hit! Be sure to grab your own copy in our shop and keep reading for more details!

You will need:

  • Printable Bug Scavenger hunt sheet and bug cards (find them here!)

  • Tape or sticky tack for hiding the cards

  • A pencil, crayon, or marker for marking off each discovery

  • A clipboard

How to play:

Start by hiding the printable bug cards around your home. Tuck them into cozy spots like under a table, behind a curtain, or near a bookshelf to make the hunt extra challenging. Then, hand your child the scavenger hunt sheet on the clipboard and a marker and let them go exploring! Each time they find a bug, they can check it off their list, name it aloud, and tell you where they found it.

If the weather’s nice, this activity works just as well outside! Hide the cards in the yard, on the porch, or on the playground. You could also take the recording sheet outside and try to find real bugs in their natural habitat!

Why It’s Great for Preschoolers

This scavenger hunt is full of learning. As children search for the bugs, they’re practicing observation skills, strengthening gross and fine motor muscles, and expanding science and vocabulary knowledge as they talk about each bug. It’s a perfect mix of play and learning!
