Alphabet Memory Game (free download!)

My kids love memory games! Well, actually, they just love games in general. They could play for hours! But I think they especially love the suspense of turning over cards in a classic memory match. If your children are like mine, this is a great activity for them to practice learning their ABCs and matching their capital and lower case letters.

You will need:

  • Alphabet cards (printable found below)

  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Print out alphabet cards.

  2. Cut out each card.

  3. Place all the cards facing down on a flat surface such as the floor, table, etc.

  4. Have child flip over two cards at a time.

  5. If the letters on the cards match (lower case & upper case), that child gets to keep them. If they don't match, have that child turn them back over and the next player can take a turn.

  6. The player who gets the most matching cards wins!

Activity Notes:

  • Help your child learn each letter by naming each letter they turn over during the game. Have them repeat it.

  • You can also have your child trace each letter with their finger to help memorize it.

  • It's easier if these cards are printed on card stock. I didn't have enough card stock loaded in the printer so some of them were printed on regular printing paper and you could see the letters through them. Plus, they will last for multiple games on card stock!

  • One rule we like to include is allowing an extra turn for the player who gets a match. This means they can keep playing until they don't receive any more matching cards.

Pin it for later!
